Drupal ships in ZIP!

From today, you can download Drupal core, Drupal modules, themes and translations in zip forrmat too!

Over the 9 years of Drupal history, many users required zip formatted files in addition to tar.gz format. cPanel, DirectAdmin and some other leading hosting control panels support compressing and extracting archives in a number of formats, including tar.gz and zip; But there are some control panels (in old school) that only support zip format.

Wordpress -- the most popular blogging software-- distributes all of its plug-ins, themes and core in both zip and tar.gz formats. Sourceforge and Google code give their favour to zip format. Now, Drupal started a love with ZIP!

No-doubt that this addition is owned by Drupal 7. At this time, Drupal 7's release candidate has released. In D7, no need to upload files to update its versions. You can easily download updates directly to your server! We guess Drupal release all the files in zip format too, to be compatible to most servers (because most servers can extract zip files easily)
